From building his first
Jeep for the 1968 Baja 1000 to numerous prototype and image vehicles
for major automotive manufacturers, Steve Spirkoff has truly done
it all. Over the years, Steve has won the respect of both major
corporations and the racing community. But Steve's expertise doesn't
end there.
Hot rods and street
vehicles are also a part of Steve's history. "I've built dozens
of street vehicles--everything from rear-end swaps to complete
vehicles. Recently, I had the thrill of getting to buy back my
'55 Chevy, which I had owned in high school. It had been one of
my first projects. It's great to drive it to street rod shows
and cruises and hear the praise it receives."
At Spirit, any type
of customization or conversion is possible. We specialize in engine,
transmission, steering, rear-end, and suspension conversions.
We make all the parts fit and work together. In all applications,
we try to use factory-parts when appropriate, so anyone can work
on your vehicle.
Problem-solving is
a Spirit strength. We can design any part and create it from raw
materials. We integrate our fabrications into your existing systems
so that they aesthetically and functionally work together as a
symbiotic whole. We think ahead to accommodate other systems in
your vehicle. We listen to how you plan to use your vehicle, and
then design and fabricate to meet your needs.
Spirit At The 2001
Western Nationals
Early July saw the folks from Spirit in Rohnert Park, California
for the Western Nationals held by Classic Chevy International (CCI).
Among the ten cars in attendance from CCI's San Diego chapter, Classic
Chevys of San Diego, three Spirit projects received high acclaim.
One of those recognized
was the San Diego club's project car, assembled at Spirit two
years ago. The car's current owner won the 1956 210 four-door
sedan in a raffle during the club's annual car show. Not a bad
return for an investment of $10.00 to buy seven raffle tickets.
Competing in the Custom class, the project car was awarded a Platinum
certificate with 990 out of a possible 1000 points. Also competing
in this class was a Spirit-restored 1957 210 four- door sedan,
bringing home a 984 point score.
Another Spirit alumni
at the show was Yvonne Nelson's 1963 Impala, also receiving a
Platinum certificate with 985 points in the Contemporary class.
Yvonne took home additional honors in the form of the "Best
Paint Original Driven" and the "Hard Luck" trophies.
Seems that Yvonne not only collected an official warning regarding
her car's superb performance (80 MPH), but also had a flat tire
while en route to the Western Nationals.
