In 1998, after years of engineering, fabricating,
building, prepping, riding in, and driving race trucks for other
people and their great causes, Jeremy Spirkoff decided it was
time to do one for himself. He teamed up with Nancy Shearer,
who, after years of chasing and riding in other people's race
trucks, years of organizing parts, and figuring out logistics
for other race teams, was also ready to do one for herself. The
match could mean nothing but another winning effort, as Jeremy
and Nancy's previous win list
boasts no less than seven SCORE championships and six Baja 1000
wins. But, the thing that makes this match the biggest winner,
is its cause, the children.
They decided to call the program Race For The
Children, and after meeting with officials from the A.B.
& Jessie Polinsky Children's Center, it was a go. The
Polinsky Center would get ten percent of the cash sponsorships
and all the winnings, and Jeremy and Nancy could advance awareness
about child abuse and prevention through their Race For The Children
program.
